RED, RED WINE! ⠀⠀
Things to know about Red Grapes: ⠀

Now, let’s get into some of the oldest & most popular red wine grapes. 😍⠀
⠀
CLASSIC RED WINE GRAPES
⠀PINOT NOIR⠀
• Difficult to grow, but totally worth it (Pinot Noir from Burgundy, France makes some of the most elite, expensive wines in the world.. hello DRC)⠀
• The colour of Pinot Noir is light & the flavour earthy with notes of red fruits⠀
• Pinot Noir is very versatile, making it great to pair with most foods⠀
• My recos: Try something from Sonoma, California or Oregon⠀ ⠀
⠀
CABERNET SAUVIGNON
• The most planted grape in the world⠀
• This grape can thrive in nearly all climates (from Canada to Australia)⠀
• A bold, flavourful wine, with notes of blackberry, cassis & bell pepper
• With oak aging you’ll also get vanilla & spice & strong tannins
• If you want to try something new: try a blend with Merlot or Cabernet Franc
MERLOT
• Another grape that can thrive in many different climates⠀
• Merlot is similar to a Cabernet Sauvignon, but with more red-fruit flavours⠀
• Look for notes of dark chocolate & bell pepper⠀
• Merlots are often aged in oak, adding spice & roundness⠀
• Northern Italian Merlot is my fav!⠀
⠀
🌶 SYRAH/SHIRAZ
• In France, this grape is referred to as Syrah but in Australia & the US it’s Shiraz
• This wine is super complex
• We get interesting notes of smoky bacon, cracked black pepper & even olives⠀
• In warmer climates, we get jammy fruits notes, like dried blackberry & fig⠀
• Try a Shiraz from Washington!
