WHY THE WINE GLASS MATTERS
WHY THE PERFECT WINE GLASS MATTERS...
Believe it or not, there is a different kind of glass for every type of wine!
It can be so overwhelming with all the different sizes and shapes but if you're wondering if you actually NEED every kind of glass out there - the simple answer is you don't! But.. there are staples every household should have..
𝐀 𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬, 𝐚 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐞 𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐞... If you're an enthusiast like me here are some factors to think about when stocking your bar with that pretty glassware:
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐰𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 –The larger the bowl the better the wine’s aromas can circulate and have time to open up. Since red wine enjoys it's time opening up, a glass with a big bowl is ideal.
𝐅𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬 - tall, skinny glasses are ideal for sparklings and champagne. It allows the bubbles in the wines to manifest at last longer and open up.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 – Stems are always a personal choice but I personally like them so that your hand doesn't affect the temperature of the wine during drinking. (ex. stemless and a hot hand is quicker to warm up wine)
𝐀𝐧 𝐚𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 - a thin and pretty glass definitely does enhance the wine drinking experience, overall it creates a better atmosphere for you and brings some joy into your purchase. So go ahead, buy that stunning crystal or cute "you had me at merlot" glass from winners. 😉
My favourite brand of glassware is Riedel, what is yours?! Leave it in the comments!
